For anonymity, I changed some of the details, but the rest is provided verbatim. The dealer I bought my WRX from is not my local dealer.

I wonder if my wreck has made it to carfax yet....

______________

Dear BicycleBuck,

You’ve been selected to take part in our Vehicle Exchange Program! Our records indicate that your 2014 SUBARU IMPREZA is in high demand and Giles Automotive would like the opportunity to either purchase or trade your 2014 SUBARU IMPREZA above the current book value.

Based on your estimated equity position and our “Customer Only” discounts, along with factory incentives at an all time high, you may be able to upgrade to a brand new model for less money than any other time this year. Many times you can trade your vehicle with no money down and possibly lower your monthly payment! Even if your car is paid off, we also have great incentives for cash buyers!

To take advantage of this “Customer Only” opportunity call us and ask to speak to one of our Sales Managers, or simply respond to this email. It’s that easy.

Congratulations on qualifying for this exceptional opportunity!

Sincerely,

Your Sales Guy at the Subaru Dealership

Typical sales stuff. The we need your vehicle is just a line to get you into the dealership. Just junk mail. Nothing more, nothing less.

I clearly can’t check this anymore, but I don’t think my accident in my WRX was ever reported to Carfax. I never bothered to follow up because the car had 160,000 miles and one cosmetic accident, even an expensive one, wouldn’t really affect the resale value.

I did get a letter like that one from my local dealer offering me $12,000 for my car. This was nearly two years after I purchased it for $14,000, and right after said dealer had performed my 120,000 mile service.

I know. The timing is just poignant.

I get this for every car I ever owned. I am getting them on regular bases for a Jeep GC I sold almost 3 years ago, and I’ve got them for Outbacks I owned 4-5 years ago.

Funny, I got the same advertisement early this week from my local Subaru joint looking for my 2013 Crosstrek. To bad I traded it in last February. What's worse is I STILL get hounded that the Nissan dealer wants my 2010 cube. That I got rid of in 2011. Don't they even bother to check registration records?

I got one of those once that said something like “We’re short on used cars and our records indicate that you have a 19XX NO ENTRY that is in high demand...”

Made me chuckle.

Exactly. I bet it came with a key saying “this key could open up a brand new Mercedes!”

I used to get those all the time for my wife's 2011 TDI. Those stopped coming around September of last year. I wonder why...

My mom just got one of these about her 2007 Mazda 5. It was totaled in a flood in 2010. Makes me question whether it was given a salvage title or not.
